Trip information:

  • Climate and Country: Albania enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Tirana boasts 9 to 11 hours of sunshine during the summer, while temperatures can soar to 40 °C in July. July and August can be hot in Albania. In the beginning of the season and the end, it is a little colder and might rain. The tour leader may have to adjust walks with this in mind. Weather from October to April is mild but highly unpredictable in the mountainous regions. Snow can be found on the highest peaks throughout the year

Budgeting & Packing:

  • Clothing: Travel during summer by wearing light-colored clothes. Layer for spring and fall travel with a fleece or jacket for chill evenings. It’s always smart to carry a lightweight raincoat. Don’t leave out swimwear for use in beach games and water activities.
  • Shoes: Wear hiking boots or good trail shoes, along with good walking shoes for general sightseeing and hiking. Use sandals or water shoes when walking on pebbly beaches, swimming lakes, and whitewater rafting.
  • Check-in baggage allowance: 20 kg. A backpack and a single main piece of luggage must be carried by visitors. Stairs are prevalent everywhere in Albania, and there is no porterage facility, so light and hand-carry luggage is recommended.
  • Equipment: Minimal equipment includes an inflatable water flask, mosquito spray, sun hat, shades, and suntan lotion. Having a beach towel to jump onto a boat or a sudden emergency dip during the trip is useful. Bring a torch as a definite requirement in case the journey proceeds one round in the dark.

  • For kids under 16 years old, the price goes down by 150 euros.

  • All activities need participants to be fit. The tour leaders can require participants to sit out if they may risk others’ safety or enjoyment. No refund will be made for activities missed.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrive in Tirana and explore the city’s landmarks

Welcome to Tirana, the vibrant Albanian capital, a blend of history, culture, and energetic liveliness. The city is friendly and full of things to do at your own relaxed pace. Depending on your arrival time, you can start investigating the city’s sights. A stroll to Skanderbeg Square, the center of Tirana, is a fine place to start, with its surrounding areas that consist of the Clock Tower, the Et’hem Bey Mosque, and the National History Museum. To have a stroll, go to the Grand Park of Tirana, where you can walk around the peaceful lake and greens. For history buffs, Bunk’Art 2 and House of Leaves are great windows into recent Albanian history. Alternatively, head to Tirana’s Old Bazaar to sample traditional snacks and see the local handicrafts on display. Your tour leader will greet you at the hotel upon arrival and check everyone in. Later, once all the participants have arrived, there will be a welcome gathering where you will hear more about the days to come and become acquainted with others on the tour. In the evening, you may want to go out to a typical Albanian restaurant to experience some local cuisine. For a nice evening stroll, walk along Tirana Castle’s illuminated streets or enjoy a peaceful moment at Mother Teresa Square. These places offer a gentle lead-in to Tirana’s distinctive personality as you relax and acclimate to the adventures ahead.

Day 2

Discover Durrës, explore Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, and stay in Vlorë

After breakfast at the hotel, we travel to Durrës, one of Albania’s oldest cities with a wonderful combination of sea scenery and history. Durrës history dates back more than 3000 years, from its Illyrian, Hellenic, and Roman ancient roots to its modern-day bustle. We begin at the well-known Durrës Amphitheater, the Balkans’ largest Roman amphitheater, before continuing to the Archaeological Museum, which relates the city’s ancient and maritime past.We will also stroll on Vollga, the vibrant seafront boulevard, and enjoy breathtaking Adriatic Sea views and vibrant city life. We then continue to Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, a stunning natural reserve known for its vast wetlands, coastal pine forests, and diverse wildlife. The park is home to the famous Karavasta Lagoon, the
largest lagoon in Albania, where you can spot rare bird species, including the endangered Dalmatian pelican. Surrounded by unspoiled landscapes, the park offers a peaceful escape into nature. Here, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, savoring fresh regional specialties while taking in the serene beauty of the area. Afternoon, we go to stay in Vlorë overnight. This old-fashioned beach resort and birthplace of Albanian independence is the ideal spot to unwind with a dash of beach ambiance and culture after a grueling day.

Day 3

Speedboat adventure to Kanin’s hidden caves and bays

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll get ready for an exciting day exploring the stunning coastal gems of Kanin. Today’s adventure starts with a speedboat trip from Vlorë to Kanin, a charming village offering sweeping views of the Ionian Sea. Our first stop on the water is the Haxhi Ali Cave, an intriguing natural site with fascinating rock formations and crystal-clear waters. The cave’s beauty is a perfect way to kick off our day of exploration. From there, we’ll head to Dafina Bay, a tranquil, secluded spot known for its calm waters and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for enjoying the serenity of the coast. Next, we’ll visit the famous Blue Cave, where the waters glisten in vibrant shades of blue, creating an almost magical atmosphere. Continuing along the coast, we’ll explore the Secret Cave, a hidden treasure only accessible by boat, offering an intimate connection to nature and the sea. Next, we will discover Bristan Bay, a beautiful and unspoiled location surrounded by rocky cliffs and stunning landscapes that would be perfect to take amazing pictures and admire the natural beauty. Finally, we will visit Grama Bay, a secluded and serene beach where you can swim, rest, and admire the unspoiled beauty of Albania’s coast. After a day of adventure and spectacular views, we will be back in Vlorë, and you can indulge in the luxury of relaxing and remembering the day of memories etched in your mind forever.

Day 4

Drive through Llogara Pass, visit Ali Pasha’s Castle, and explore Himarë

Breakfast at the hotel, and then depart for Llogara Pass, a breathtaking mountain pass with a magnificent view of the Ionian Sea and landscape. While on the road, you will be able to appreciate the breathtaking views while climbing up to the summit, from which the breathtaking view of the coast will be in front of you. We will go from Llogara to Ali Pasha’s castle. The castle was built by the great Albanian Ottoman commander Ali Pasha and provides a beautiful view of the area and an overview of Albanian history in the Ottoman
period. The glorious past and strategic location of the castle make it a very fascinating destination. We proceed to Himara, a lovely seaside resort town renowned for its picturesque old streets, blue sea, and peaceful atmosphere. You will be free to walk around the town and enjoy the laid-back seaside atmosphere upon arrival. You will stay overnight in one of the hotels in the region in the evening, where you can unwind, eat well, and enjoy the seaside town scenery as the sun sets over the Ionian Sea.

Day 5

Visit the Blue Eye, explore Sarandë, and tour ancient Butrint

After breakfast, we begin the day with a stop at the Blue Eye, one of the best natural springs of turquoise-colored water, which is surrounded by vegetation. Its landscape beauty and peaceful surroundings make it ideal for a stroll and some photos.
We’ll then move on to Saranda, a charming seacoast city renowned for its stunning beaches and lively atmosphere. There we’ll have lunch and savor the delicious local cuisine while soaking up the beauty of this seacoast resort city.
In the afternoon, we visit Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and among the most important archaeological sites of Albania. Walk through the remains of this ancient Illyrian Hellenic and Roman city and see its historical value and archaeological riches. A day filled with adventure ends, and we drive back to Saranda evenings, where you have the possibility of relaxing in your hotel with a quiet night, local food, and sunbathing on the beach.

Day 6

Relax in Ksamil and discover the UNESCO town of Gjirokastër

Morning, after breakfast, we will visit Ksamil, a small traditional village with white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water surrounding it. Spend some time relaxing on the beach or take a swim in the Ionian Sea. Ksamil is also famous for being surrounded by small islands, perfect for a boat ride on a whim or just to enjoy the view from the beach. We will then travel to Gjirokastër, the UNESCO World Heritage town renowned for its well-preserved Ottoman architecture and stunning old town. You can explore the ancient attractions, including the Gjirokastër Castle, which offers panoramic views of the town and the valley below. In the evening, we reach a local hotel, where you can relax and spend the day in this charming town famous for its cobblestone streets, stone houses, and culture.

Day 7

Explore Apollonia, visit Ardenica Monastery, and return to Durrës

Following breakfast, we drive to Apollonia, an ancient Illyrian city near the town of Fier. Visit the archaeological site, with remarkably preserved ruins, temples, and a grand amphitheater that offers a glimpse into Albania’s glorious classical past. From Apollonia, we will continue to Ardenica, a medieval monastery. It was built by the Byzantine Emperor in 1282. The monastery is famous for the marriage of Albanian national hero Skanderbeg to Andronika Arianiti, from the nobel family Arianiti. Take some time to admire the stunning architecture and serene atmosphere of this idyllic setting. Then back to Durrës, the vibrant sea city known for its vibrant culture and breathtaking beaches. Albania’s second city, located on the breathtaking Adriatic coast. On arrival, there is free time to relax and make the most of the evening, perhaps strolling along the promenade or simply discovering the lovely old town. After a day of complete adventure and history, we spend the night in a hotel in Durrës, where you can relax and unwind overnight at the beach.

Day 8

Trip ends with a transfer to Tirana International Airport

After breakfast, we will depart directly for Tirana International Airport (TIA), ensuring a smooth and timely arrival for your departure. There are no scheduled activities today, allowing you to depart at your convenience. If you wish to extend your stay in Albania, please let us know in advance, as we can assist with additional arrangements in Tirana or somewhere else.
